RYE HARBOUR NATURE RESERVE

Both the 5kms run (SPRINT event) and 10kms run (STANDARD event) will take place within Rye Harbour Nature Reserve,  with the kind permission of the reserve manager Barry Yates. We would ask that competitors respect the rights of other users such as walkers, dog walkers, leisure cyclists and families. We are delighted that the triathlon is set to become an annual event, so we are relying on those taking part to continue the good impression made in the inaugural Rye Tri!

The nature reserve is a mosaic of habitats beside the sea, and its 805 acres contain shingle, salt marsh, sand dunes, gravel pits, grazing marsh, reed beds and farmland. It is designated as a Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI) owing to the many unusual plants and animals that live there. Between late May and mid July the wild flowers are at their colourful best. However the area is best known for its bird life and its breeding colonies, with nearly 300 species having been sighted here, and it attracts more than 200,000 visitors a year.
